Iron is an essential macronutrient, which performs various vital functions in our body. It also helps in producing the myoglobin, a protein that provides oxygen to muscles. Along with this, having enough iron in the body also boosts immunity. If the immune system is healthy then your body and mind will be healthy. Iron produces haemoglobin, which carries oxygen to different parts of body, also to the damaged cells, tissues and organs. Further, it also helps in fighting infectious as well as viral diseases. Weakness and exhaustion
A person who is deficient in iron always feels weak and tired. Iron is the mineral that helps in forming haemoglobin, a protein responsible for carrying oxygen to various parts of the body. Iron deficiency also leads to low haemoglobin, which means less oxygen reaches your tissues and muscles, leading to a lack of energy.

Shortness of breath
As mentioned above, iron helps in the production of haemoglobin, however, when iron levels are low, it means that both haemoglobin and oxygen levels will also be low. Due to the lack of oxygen in the muscles, the body has to work harder, due to which shortness of breath begins. In such a situation, even walking, climbing stairs, exercising also becomes difficult.
Increased heart rate
When the body is deficient in iron and haemoglobin levels are low, the heart has to work extra hard to pump oxygen throughout the body. This can cause an irregular heartbeat or an increased heart rate.

Dizziness and headache
Iron deficiency can limit the flow of oxygen to the brain, making headaches and dizziness more common. Women often struggle with this.
Pale skin
Haemoglobin present in blood cells gives blood its red colour. When a person is suffering from iron deficiency, the production of haemoglobin is affected in the process, causing the skin to lose its pink colour and warmth. The face, gums, nails and the inner part of the eyelid may turn pale.
From which it becomes clear that the person is suffering from anaemia. In this case, the doctor must be consulted immediately.

Swelling and soreness in throat
Your mouth and tongue can indicate iron deficiency in a number of ways. If you have redness and swelling in your tongue or mouth, it is likely that your body lacks required amount of iron. Other symptoms may include dry mouth, burning, red cracks on the sides of the mouth, and mouth sores.
