Iodine is the most vital nutrient, which is required by the thyroid gland to synthesize the hormone thyroxine. It has been revealed in many researches that if there is a deficiency of iodine in the body, then it can increase thyroid related problems. Thyroid cells absorb iodine and tyrosine combines with the amino acid to form the hormones T3 and T4. Iodized salt, cheese, milk and yogurt are considered natural sources of iodine.

Copper is required in the body for the function of thyroid. When the amount of copper in the blood decreases, it affects the production of T3 and T4 hormones.  If there is a deficiency of this copper nutrient in patients suffering with hypothyroidism, then they may complain of feeling very cold or shivering.
